Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) announced an ambitious plan to lower Ghana’s energy cost by shifting from fuel-based to solar power when elected president.
Can Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia Deliver His Pledges To Slash Electricity Bills?
Speaking to the clergy in the Upper East Region, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia outlines his vision to introduce around two thousand (2000) megawatts of solar energy within his first four years in office.
He states that this amount represents nearly half of Ghana’s current power consumption and can potentially reduce electricity costs by at least fifty percent.
The next major objective for him is to bring down the cost of power(electricity).
He wants to do it by shifting Ghana away from fuel-generated power to solar-generated power. The question is how can he do it?
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia highlights Ghana’s potential to harness solar energy, which is abundantly available and free.
He contrasts this with the cost associated with importing fuel, which requires foreign exchange.
He adds that; ‘’Solar is given to us by God for free’’, however, if we have to buy fuel we need foreign exchange and then we have to import. With solar, we can utilize it and generate power
Do you think what the vice president is saying is to be trusted or its just a mere political propaganda?
