Ananse And The Idiot Souls episode 3

As Ananse floated downstream, clinging to his web for dear life, he couldn't help but laugh. "Ah, they think they've seen the last of me! But Kwaku Ananse always has another scheme up his sleeve!"

Before long, the river brought him to the edge of another village. This one appeared quieter, with the villagers harvesting ripe mangoes from the trees.

Ananse’s eyes gleamed with mischief. "Perhaps this village will be smarter—but even the clever can fall for my tricks."

After drying off, Ananse scuttled over to a group of women carrying baskets filled with mangoes. "Greetings, hardworking friends!" he said, bowing deeply.

The women paused, eyeing him warily. "Who are you, and what do you want?" one of them asked, suspicion evident in her voice.

"I am Kwaku Ananse, the great helper from the neighboring village. I’ve come to share my wisdom," he said, flashing a wide grin. "I couldn’t help but notice your mangoes. They look so ripe and juicy! But tell me, how do you protect them from the Mango Monsters?"

The women gasped in shock. "Mango Monsters?"

"Oh yes," Ananse replied, lowering his voice for effect. "They come at night, sneaking through the trees, and devour mangoes faster than you can say 'spider silk.' But fear not—I can keep them at bay. All I need is..." He paused dramatically. "A feast of mangoes to boost my powers."

The women hesitated, unsure whether to trust him. Just then, little Kofi appeared again! He had been following Ananse to warn others about his tricks.

"Wait!" Kofi shouted. "Don’t listen to him! There’s no such thing as Mango Monsters!"

The woman turned to Kofi, curious. "How do you know, little boy?" one of them asked.

"Because he tricked our village! He made us cook for him, give him our food, and do his work, but he never helped us," Kofi explained earnestly.

The women regarded Ananse with growing suspicion. Ananse laughed nervously. "This boy is just envious of my wisdom. He doesn’t know about the Mango Monsters because he’s too young!"

Ananse speaking to the women about Mango monsters

But Kofi wasn’t finished. "If Mango Monsters are real, Ananse froze. He hadn’t expected to be challenged so boldly. "Uh, well... Mango Monsters only appear to those who don’t believe in them," he stammered.

The women were no longer convinced. "You’re a liar, Ananse!" they shouted, shaking their fists. "Get out of our village before we call the elders!"

Realizing he was outnumbered, Ananse hurried away as fast as his eight legs could. "That boy Kofi has ruined my plans again!" he muttered.

From that day, Ananse learned to be more careful about where he played his tricks. And the villagers, thanks to Kofi’s bravery, learned to be more cautious and think for themselves.

But don’t think this was the end of Ananse’s mischief. Oh no! Somewhere in Ghana, Kwaku Ananse is surely cooking up his next big plan...

What will be his next plan?
